I don't think my high school chemistry yeacher quite grasped what I
was getting at when I brought this up.

I clearly didn't have as strong a grasp of chemistry back then, which
is to be expected. This wouldn't really work although we do things
which aren't entirely different such as growing strained silicon on
germanium substrate.
